I built three identical quadrants with a 30" radius out of marine ply. I am planning to mount them on my rudders perpendicular to the axis, and the third will be mounted on the rear of my cockpit with a tiller arm attached (the driving unit). I believe that this setup will eliminate the slack that occurs when you go hard over with cable systems that use standard (straight) tiller attachments on the rudders, and allow for me to have a tight tiller controlled steering system. I like steering with a tiller because of the feedback, this is the only way I could think of to have a tight tiller system with the placement of my cockpit. Also depending on how I mount the driving quadrant, I can set it up to steer either like a normal tiller, or like a whip staff. This is going to be a winter project for me to install. I will post photos when I can.

whip staff is like a vertical mounted tiller connected by lines to the rudder, push staff the way you want to go, I put 1 on my first cat as the tillers were too far back and too short for comfortable steering, You could mount one inside if you wanted, or use it to mount a tiller pilot in a sheltered position.

I have no idea what a whip-staff is.

Are you talking about a tiller extension?

You can make one yourself if you do not want to buy one.
