Wharram Builders and Friends

A Photo & Discussion Forum for Wharram Design Enthusiasts

Hi

Me and a friend are building two Tiki 30 and are about to order aluminium masts.
We've found a mill here in the UK who can make them in one piece of aluminium(6082).
Length 9 meters, diameter 140mm, thickness 4mm.
Downside is we have to buy 12 of them so we where hope to find other builders/owners who wants aluminium masts too.
Price is approx £250/each if we can find buyers for all, if not maybe we could split the cost.
We will need 2 masts ourselves.

We are planning for delivery spring 2020.

If there is any interest please get in touch.

Best regards
Krister and Phil

Hi Krister and Phil, i have a tiki 30 in the Netherlands. I have no idea what shipping would Costa, but i am interested.
Is the weight of the mast known?
I have a wooden mast witch is 100 kg with stayes furler and so on. This is heavy to raise the mast. A lighter one would be welcome.
Also a (half a) meter extra might be a good idea. If you want a sun (or rain) shelter above the hatches and between, then a bit higher mast is wat I would do.
There are people who have done just that.

Please keep me posted, I haven't found the right tube's here ..

Bart
Hi Bart

Thanks for your reply.

The weight is approx 40kg.
The masts will be delivered from the mill to Newhaven(next to Brighton), we're thinking of March next year(lead time is 2 weeks).
We are happy to help on our side to pack it and make sure the mast will be loaded on a truck.

We will ask if they can add a bit on the length, but I can't see why not.

We'll keep you informed.

Have a good day/

I'm interested in 1 mast!

I would prefer a length of 10m. But 9,5m (Bart) or 9m (you) are acceptable too.

Gerhard

Hi Bart,

If the deal works, I could pick up my mastpipe at your place, so we would have a short shipping distance.

Gerhard

Hi SoLong

Sounds good.

We might actually change all lengths to 10 meters and then its up to each buyer to cut to their own wishes.
That should mean we will have to buy 11 masts but price would go up slightly(£10 or so).

Cheers/

Sorry I just now saw you name, we'll keep you informed Gerhard.

Hi Theo

It's still an option.
We haven't ordered the masts yet and will wait a couple of weeks just to see how the corona will effect things here.

I'll send you an email with my details.
We also have a WhatsApp group for those interested in buying masts that I can include you in.

Best regards and happy sailing/

Wish you guys were buying the sticks nearer to me. I'm in Hawaii so not an option.

Currently replacing about 1m on the head of my wood mast, on a tiki 30. Would so love to go Alu.

Curious how you will set up the mast heads on your new sticks?

Enjoy

Hi
