I had the same thoughts - a well built Bangka, which could stand also a good amount of rough weather could be a alternative, although there comes the weitght issue.... high time to meet once in the Philippines. As from January 2015 I'll have more time available .. Cheers Wave

Geminidawn said:…

Hi Paul

the reasons to stretch WaveDancer by 75 cm were more buoyancy (= more payload for diving equipment), less hobbyhorsing, better up wind performance and a bit more speedpotential. WD sails realy well under all conditions, the V-shaped hulls are the best what you can have, if you don't overload the boat. The Amatasi is interesting for me since it is designed for fishing AND sailing, can be disassembled quick and stored easy, plus with the little draft she'd be ideal for the…

I spend most of my life in offices, so to build a boat myself could be a welcome challenge, but no decision is made so far. Cheers Wave

Hi Wave, that was a quick reply - i had expected you might stumble upon it in a month or two!

Well I wish you great good luck. Must have been terrible selling WaveDancer...

Amatsi looks interesting. I see that it has a fuller multichine hull compared to tiki types. Advantages? More load carrying, more space below... any others? Did you ever find the vee hull (and therefore vee bow and stern in the WD lacked bouyancy, I mean tended to bury / dive a…

Are you building yourself or going to Andy Smith? How long to build and what cost? Dont mean to pry but would be interested in general numbers - it sounds very appealing. I have been to Andy Smith's website and amazed at the incredible volume of building he gets thro in all these years. Wow, its fantastic.

Did you decide against the charters or day/charters? I know that my tiki 21 in India it is hard to do such things both officially and even unofficially. Somehow the authorities there fear that with a single tiki 21 you are a huge threat to national security!!! So, just friends and fun. Mine is junk rigged as one day my very good Jeckells sails disappeared and I had to come up with something new!

wish you all the best in your new home(s) and a great new life out there!

Hi Paul

WaveDancer is sold. A heartbreaking act, but it had to be, since I did not want to bring the boat to the Philippines. The new owner is a enthusiastic young sailor and diver from Austria. How ever, I plan to build a Amatasi in the Philippines what suits my future activities there better (Island hopping, going into the small corners and rivers and do some fishing with my Filipinofriends and Family). 2 months to go, I start packing now, there are quite some balikbayan boxes to…

Hi Wave,

nice boat! Would love to hear an update on your Philippines venture... Did you get Wave Dancer over there or do something else? I am sure you have learnt a lot since the last post in Dec 2012!?

I hope to visit some time in 2015 and would be a willing customer. I have a tiki 21 in India but would love to sail a bigger cat.

Where there is a will there is a way. I just moved to the Philippines myself and I'll be staying until the Pahi is finished at least, we may stay longer if we can make a profit. Alot of the businesses in the Philippines are owned by foreigners, Chinese, Koreans and Westerners but they all have a Philippine Spouse or Business Partner and they seem to manage ok. The Philippines is a tiger economy and the Peso is getting stronger. IMHO as a westerner I wouldn't go looking for bureaucracy, I…
