I built 2 hull stands that can take an axle and wheels to move my Tiki 26. They work equally as well when moving a single hull although the weight of the fully rigged boat means care and manpower is required. They are constructed of 15mm plywood both screwed and epoxy filleted. They take a 1 inch steel axle that accepts two pneumatic wheels on either side - so eight wheels in total for the pair of stands. The bolt on the picture next to the axle hole prevenets the jubilee clips on the removable axle from spinning. The wheels are secured on the axle using R clips. For a Tiki 21 everthing could be sclaed down.
Wheel steering drum rope turnstag:wharrambuilders.ning.com,2020-04-25:2195841:Topic:1725922020-04-25T21:33:59.904ZIan Rhttps://wharrambuilders.ning.com/profile/IanR

I am making a wheel steering set-up for my 31'. I have made it from offcuts knocking about my workshop (hard to get stuff at the moment) and to suit my tooling (small engineering lathe/woodworking gear), so haven't bothered looking at plans.

I have set it up on the bearings which are housed into shells housed into the ends of a thick ply box and have been playing about with it at this stage to see how the rope will behave on it in use. The drum spins well and true but from what I can see the rope will form riding turns if it is just wrapped along the drum. So is the rope fixed in the middle, or arranged in some way to stop riding turns? How many turns are best used, should they cover the length of the drum? I am assuming 5mm or 6mm diameter dyneema will be used as I have some spare.

Any advice? Thanks- Ian

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone experienced in cooking underway on small cats feels there would be a benefit to adding a gimballed stove/burner to the tiki 30 galley? What direction would be optimal for the stove to gimbal?

Thank you!

I have a chart plotter depthfinder that came with a transome mounted skimmer type transducer. I mounted the transducer on a tow fish that I made. It looks cool but alas to no avail I am unable to get it stable at higher speeds. It dives hard, cavitates and flips over then hits the boat. I could always install a though hull transducer in the conventional manner. But I really would rather not go that route. I would appreciate any ideas and experience with any alternative transducer mounts Thanks

I would really like a heater in my boat for the early and end of the season. temperature is not really a problem but everything gets wet.

Right now i use 2 small 200W electric heaters, they are small but only 200w and do not remove moist air without extra ventilation. ( And i don't have 220v all the time..)

I am thinking of putting a wallas heater in one hull and for the other hull i could make a removable duct, or i could try to put a duct inside of a beam. The duct could be made from pvc or neoprene. The first solution isn't nice, the second complicated.

A more simple solution would be nice..

Thanks,

The starboard hull "front-part" is used for storage, i could fit the heater there. the duct should then go thro the deck, in de beam. I figure i could make this from pvc tubing there are versions with rubber seals inside.

I am not sure if this is brilliant or stupid..yet. so please comment, i can use it..

Hello,

I am wondering if anyone is using or has built a tender doubling as a cockpit for the T26.

I am trying to figure out how and where to carry a dinghy on the T26. The boat will be anchored on a tidal beach most of the time. I am considering a 10' rowable canoe or a 6' punt to carry in front of the mast. The dinghy should be light enough to be carried on the shoulder down the beach to the water's edge.

What are your solutions for the tender?

Thanks

What's the best autopilot for a tiki 38. I read hear that they are hard to mount on the rudder. Looking at Raymarine ev-100....any thoughts?

I have a question for the huddled masses yearning to be free, or perhaps it's better addressed to those who have already built their boats and are free. Whichever. If you have what you think is the right answer, please share it.

In my layout, I am limiting through-hulls to a single salt water intake for the galley and head. I will have 3, perhaps 4 sinks. I intend to route them straight to holes in the hull. I prefer a straight shot in whatever configuration to limit clogging and make it easy to clear them when they occur. The 2 kitchen sinks will ideally empty through a common drain. Is it better to place the drain above or below the waterline?

In a T38 the space between the height of the bottom of the sink and the waterline is quite small so openings would have to be close the the waterline. If above, I would guess that passing waves could potentially drive green water up the drain and into the sinks with some force. Does a standard plumbing 'P' trap prevent this or do i need locking plugs in the sinks? If so, where do you get locking plugs/stoppers or is there some cleverer solution I have not heard about?

I am less attracted to the idea of doing the drain outlets below the waterline. I imaging gunk could sit long enough to create odors and so on if set up this way. Plus, the holes would be below the waterline. However I will do so if it is the most effective place for them.

Oh, and if anyone has a recommended water tank breather valve that seals for liquid when upside down, please add that information. I have found them in big sizes for fuel cells and imagine they will work but if theres a purpose designed valve, please share.

Comments and advice please and thank you in advance,

Does anybody have experience sailing /installing the Wharram windvane on a Tiki26? I have bought the plans and after having sailed the Tiki for a season I feel I need a self steering system . I will also install a tiller pilot. Would be ideal to just have one on the rear 4th beam but it could be hit by a wave . Any ideas would be most appreciated. Cheers
