I find this video in youtube, from Martin Sikora - Ucrania. Tiki 30 x big gust, the tiki don't capsize, he touch the hullside in water and return to horizontal yourself !!! This video proves the text "tehini is my boat" from James Wharram write in 60's

He lifted the hull twice !!??  After the first time I wonder why he didn't release the mainsheet and reef the sail.

It's interesting it was on inland water, with the wind coming over hills.  The other two times I've heard about Wharrams going over have both been inland or close to land.  I think it can be a problem when wind comes through a gap in high land and can gust to a very high speed very suddenly.  The wind can be accelerated because it is funnelled between hills.  Sometimes it can also hit harder because it blows down a slope.

I'm impressed the Tiki 30 could recover from such an angle without going right over!

Crikey! I'm glad I'm experiencing this from my computer and not aboard. I agree Robert, I would have chucked lots of reefs in or be ready to dump sheets by the 2nd gust!! It does show the boat recovering well in flat water, but add some waves to throw windward hull up as gust hits or create a trough to dig the leeward hull into and it could well be a different story..............

Still impressive tho.
