The Raka is one of my favorite Wharram designs. I have drawn a Tiki 30 stretched to 36', increased the beam and the hull beam and it came out to be almost the exact same thing as a Raka. Perhaps you could share more photos with us. Cheers, David

Hi David, I am a member of the ZYC, but still based inland (Brits, North West Province). From time to time I drive to the coast to breath a bit of sea air. I am sailing since the 1970's though, with offshore ticket.

Hey David,I am building a tiki 26 here in Oz but am from Cape town originally,i just was wondering what the costs of building cats are like back in South Africa?

Hey David,i am on the sunshine coast in a town called palmwoods, the climate is like Durban, man we have been having massive downpours at the moment, flash floods everywhere. My boat is a dream i have always wanted to build a boat from a young fella.A tiki 26 suits me fine,i hope to do some long offshore passages in it,one thing that is going to be tricky though is adequate shelter from the sun,we will see...I plan on doing most of the major passages on my own,i have a few personalities so company will not be a problem.Mate oz is not cheap, you pay thru your nose over here and like you say the states and U.K are cheaper,ie i pay about $au 100 for four litres of west over here.

cheers apul.

Hi David,
Yeah its an Ariki, which I changed a bit.Wharrams plans are for 45Ft 6in, this one turned out 48ft 6in.Also has 3 cabins above deck, between main beams, original plans call for just one very low cabin, between 2nd and 3rd beam. Also no bulwarks, pleasing sheer and campered decks. But you are right, I believe Wharram took theAriki lines from an upscaled Raka.Have finished the cabin sides, decks, cabin tops and the hatches are getting their coamings now. Will post more pics soon.
Cheers Trevor
