Hi all, I have to get basic third party insurance for my Tiki 26. Does anyone have any insurance firms to recommend or otherwise? Cheapest quotes found?

Thanks ,

Steve

Hello Steve-  most of the people (UK) I know use Basic Boat Insurance  www.basic-boat.com

I use it myself also, it's 3rd party only and cheap, and they don't ask stupid questions.

Re comprehensive insurance, my thinking was when considering insurance as follows:

1) It seems hard to find someone competent to survey a Wharram, I tried one or two surveyors, local to me, they never bothered to reply. Ply/epoxy is something many of them are not qualified for.

2) I have my own standards, that's why I built the boat

3) In the event of an accident/damage, do I want someone else to repair my boat: not on your nelly! The ins co. can't pay for my own repairs because I'm not a registered boatbuilder.

Cheers-   Ian

Thanks Ian, very useful. Yes, completely agree with your 3 points. I don't want comprehensive insurance at all at all.

Best,

Steve

Just to update this for anyone else looking for insurance. I bought third party cover from Basic Boat Insurance as above link, for use in UK coastal waters (up to 12 miles offshore) for £85 for 1 year. The form filling was straightforward and quick.
