How do you stop the gaff from bearing on the shroud? Do you use gaff vangs? Thanks, Thierry
Hi Thierry,
No need. Yes the gaff does bear onto the shrouds a little when on a beam reach, but have your traveller tight and use the width of the sterns to sheet the main tight but out at an angle. As soon as the apparent wind is on the beam or behind, I drop the main, change the peak halyard and raise the main again with the gaff in front of the shrouds. No chafe and sail sets really well!
