Beached in Ladysmith B.C. our home town. We have replaced our rusty 40 yr. old gudgeons and pintles with lashings.

Great to see Piggy is still going strong. The lashings are looking good!

Lovely looking boat - Glad it's not the one in the other sad picture!

Just looking at the tab on the rudder.  Is it a self-steering servo to link to a wind vane, or just a trim tab to help balance the rudder loads?  Have you tried it yet and does it work?

Thanks Robert. 35 years ago we added these balanced trim-tabs. They are very powerful and work extremely well in all conditions. The wind vane is off right now getting painted but usually sits in the pedestal just beside the ladder.

Thanks Thomas, that's interesting.  I'm trying to decide what sort of windvane to build for my Tiki 26.  I was thinking of a horizontal axis vane with a pendulum servo below, connected with lines to the tillers.  Connecting a vane to trim-tabs like yours instead would avoid having heavily loaded lines, with the possibility of backlash and friction through turning blocks.  It's good to hear yours work well.

Hi Thomas,

First, I echo Robert's comment, I'm glad to see Piggy is fine and not the boat on the rocks.

David Halladay is working on the completion of our Ariki 48. Piggy's story was one of the many things that inspired me to have David build the Ariki. I have to tell you that the sight of what I too thought was that inspiring lady on the rocks was a saddening. I'm very glad to hear the good news that you are prepping to take her out cruising. Any chance your course will come by way of San Francisco. I would enjoy meeting you and seeing Piggy.

Hi Brad. Our intention is to sail directly to Hawaii and then on to the South Pacific again, so barring some unforeseen misadventure we won't be heading your way. What are your plans when you take over your new boat. It's built in Florida right? Will you be sailing it to San Francisco...lots of options I guess.  I've been watching the progress of the Ariki 48's. It will be an awesome boat.
