T38 faster? :-)
less loaded I believe . I was sailing our Tiki 38 boat in lake Ontario with a group of other multihulls (none where wharrams) and we crossed the lake from Toronto to Port Dalhousie , about 25 miles away .... our boat was not loaded and we humiliated all of the rest , arriving more than 1 hour earlier.
Some months later when we reached Miami we were loading the boat to cruise Cuba , and the boat was really slow , even though we passed other boats on our way. Since we are on 'cruising mode' its hard to make more than 7 kn , with the empty boat we were able to make 10 kn or more ....
when we made the ocean passage from Tobago to Brazil we were extremely heavy (we had 600 lts of gasoline as Plan B in the case we were forced to motor against the wind a current) and we made 2400 NM in 19 days , with an average of about 5,5 kn or 120 NM a day , which was surprisingly good for me , we expected less ...
