Sean Maguire replied to Zach Johnson's discussion Tiki 30 mast measurements
"What other options are there for the mainsail?  I always imagined the wingsail was just a shortcut to make the mast easier to build, essentially to avoid making channels for a boltrope type rig, but getting a similar effect.  I remember…"

Hi, I'm Sean.  I'm new to this forum.  I'm currently re-starting work on my Tiki 30 which has sat gathering dust in a barn for about 7 years while I finished paying off the mortgage and saving for my kids schooling.  I'd like to post about that project when I get something good looking to take photos of, but it's a few miles away on my family's farm, and I am making trips over to work on it as time allows.  In my own basement I am working on the dinghy, and I have some decent progress made on…See More

I am:
A home builder
What boat (s) are you building or do you own?
Tiki 30
Country, City, and State?
USA, West Virginina
About me or us?
I am a steel worker living in WV, but I grew up on the Chesapeake and want to get back in the water. Building a Tiki 30 in a barn in WV. The project started in 2008-2009, but stalled out and sat collecting dust in a barn. Suddenly the bug has bitten again, and I am back at work on the boat.
Looking to?
I have 3 stages of pipedreams about the T30, when it's finished:
1: Dunk it in the upper Chesapeake and get used to it for a season or two in the waters of my childhood.
2. Trailer it down to Chincoteague and give have it's maiden blue water voyage be a coastal hop to Norfolk and back, hopefully taking my family to the Rudee inlet for an overnight stay in Virginina Beach to thank them for gettin on a boat with me.
3: Would love to stick the boat in a container and have it shipped to Vietnam or Thailand and retire there with the boat, sailing in Halong bay, from Haiphong and Cat Ba, down around the coast and up into the Gulf of Thailand. Would dearly love to sail as far north as Korea and Japan one summer.
