Patrick John McGrath commented on Andy Robinson's blog post 51 tehini position of mast in a sloop rig
"Yes. The front beam in the position as shown in the plans is the right place to put the mast. As that beam has to take the whole of the download from the mast of the sloop rig, it has to be strong or you risk beam failure, (the most prolific failure…"

Patrick John McGrath replied to Bart Koop's discussion looking for a way to improve upwind sailing.
"I am in complete agreement with Maxim about locking the jib halyard at the top of the mast. I have ,in the past, lost two important overnight races when the jib halyard in one case ripped the mast cleat right out of the mast  and another when…"

Patrick John McGrath replied to Éric Bouvéron's discussion Why nails with epoxy?
"Quote:- Does someone had an experience with this kind of issue. Yes----Lots. Ring nailing, screwing and bolting all have their time and place, but when time = money the fastest effective method is the best.  I was faced with disbelief when I…"

Patrick John McGrath commented on wakataitea's group to many wharrams rest in a boatyard
"I have known three people socially, who set out to build a big Wharram, with great intentions, but somehow, when they had built the hulls to deck level (the easy part), they just sort of petered out and never finished the boat. Only one of them…"

Patrick John McGrath replied to Josh's discussion Tiki 38 for a Family of 4?
"Yes Bob we really did build a Tehini in 4 weeks. We had a rented light industrial unit which was big enough. We had a smooth flat and level concrete floor. We dyna-bolted 2 x4 wood pieces to the floor at the frame stations . We Made up the hull…"

Patrick John McGrath replied to Josh's discussion Tiki 38 for a Family of 4?
"For Godness sake build the biggest boat yo can afford. The Wharram building system is so simple that a big boat is just as easy to build as a smaller one.  Go for a Tehini if you have that big family. We, (that is 4 people), built a Tehini in 4…"
