I am shipping my boat (Tiki 31) within the next couple of months to the UK from C.I. to put her together and launch her, probably in the Trent below Nottingham to shake her down over the autumn and …Continue

"Thanks for that: I have retained schooner rig as per design apart from adding approx 250 mm to mainmast for a little bloke like me to look underneath mainsail. I am mostly concerned about the options for heavy weather."
"A half lap joint includes a right angle in the joints and this is where crack progression originates. It (the crack) works exponentially.
Way back when, the Comet airplane suffered from this (blew up because of square cornered windows) and…"
" Photos: very interesting and imaginative conversion. I think that must be one of the best ways of doing it if you want to cover the centrecockpit space.
Re the beam and block discussion, I have epoxied and varnished mine so any rot can…"
"Hello- ref Beam 3 and your request for info. I have no experience of beam removals : my only thoughts about this which may be worth considering are regarding beam lashing points, blocks, reinforcement etc.
If you are taking out a beam there must be…"
"I don't know, to be honest. Your query I assume is for "similar" Wharram boat, as the 31 is different. My initial enquiries re certification in UK haven't brought this up, also I had no queries from the Insurer on that score. You…"
"Hello Manos, ref weights I am just going from the feel of it, as I am used to shifting big oak beams and small/medium wooden structures which has been my worklife scenario for a long time. I have a precise pivot point I know well on the hulls,…"
"Manos : ref waterline marking I have sketched mine out on one of the hulls with a laser level having firstly done proportional measurements from photos of other Tiki 31s, but mostly of Phil le Maitre's boat which I knew reasonably well, which…"
"Thanks Galway Bay for that very interesting info: I am just fiddling with sketches for short beams to get me below Nottingham on the river Trent to the wider locks in spring. I had to shift a hull at a time by road for trailing as even with both…"
"I wanted insurance for trailing.
I got it though had no "number" and have moved the boat on the road without any problem and will reconsider it later.
Self-built Wharrams seem to be "worth" moneywise ****-all, let's…"
"I think it very much depends on building conditions and finish required. Also, unless you are confident of a very quick build then I wouldn't buy it all at once.
For costing purposes, especially if you are using WEST which is quite toxic,…"
"Hello again. I have now shipped the boat from Guernsey to UK (Midlands).
I have had to trailer each hull individually as combined width of hulls is just too much for standard trailer UK.
I am now combining hulls on beams at Redhill Marina by…"
That is a beautiful hull Ian in your profile photo. Have thought of several ways of painting my own tiki 31, but that is a beautiful way of doing it. In course of building? Whereabouts are you on England? Could you explain how it was done? Sorry for all the questions. Good wishes in all cases.
Just saw your comments, quite a work - he actually painted on the boat, rather than making a computer generated thing to apply on it. It is a sort of floating piece of art - you should treat it with care!
On another line - what is CI? - channel islands or somewhere else? If Channel Islands not small money to cross the channel as freight - but at least you´ll have it close. A bit of a downer if I had to take to Latinamerica, which is quite far. If you move to the UK would be nice to see you. Best regards and best of luck,
