"This is an interesting discussion and Rory's figures are helpful. If I take Rory's 45° to windward to mean to the apparent wind, then in 10knt of true wind, with a boat speed of 5.5knt, the angle to true wind is about 68°, so…"

G'day Bart. I am Gerry on big tane. I made an aft deck cover for an old boat i had. It was made with pvc condut tubes and it folded kinda like an pram cover. With sone saddles to clip the bracing wires to it was eazy to setup and drop. The tubes where placed in the middle and on alum right angled brakets about an inch apart . The wires where for and aft. It covered the area well and the front and back where zipperd and simply strech loops over an knobb to tie down. I hope this is of some idear to you. I am going to do the same with my tanenui 28. Sorry, but i only know english.
Gerry on big tane.
Toora.
