... may be it was planned to overrunn pirates with this reinforced bow... smile! I had also a rusty "stainless biminisupport" and I changed it to an all timber-construction. Looks better and is better..

This looks like low grade stainless steel, 304 / A2, put a magnet on it if it sticks then you will know.

Always try use high grade 316 / A4, do not use a mild steel wire brush to clean any of your stainless.

This does look bad, are you goin to swap it out.

If you are not planning to break ice sailing in winter north conditions, you will be just fine with a few layers of fiberglass as in the plans.
