Hitia 17- Alternative Mast Construction

When I have eight 17-1/2' long staves, slathered in slippery epoxy, I want as little as possible to deal with. I'm preparing to cut and pattern route a series of 10 supports that will hold the mast in alignment. My only concern duting the glueup should be do I have enough epoxy in the joint and is the joing sufficiently clamped?
