Man I absolutely love your boat! Amazing work... what does her name mean?
Hello Brandon,
Thanks for your comment. Her name KAVENGA is a polynesian term which means:
The star path, the succession of rising or setting guiding stars down which one steers, was known as the avei`a by the Tahitians... .... this is analogus to the kaveinga of the Tongans and the kavenga of Tikopia...
This is a succession of stars toward which the bow of the conoe is pointed. Each is used as a guide when it is low in the heaven; as it rises up overhead it is discarded and the course is reset by the next one in the series. One after another these stars rise till dawn...
quoted from: David Lewis: We, the navigators; page 47; Honolulu 1972
Kavenga is almost ok......
good winds (bons ventos)
Ralf,
Congratulations on a beautiful job. You've done some very nice work. I have to confess that I'm about to steal your design for turning the hulls over..
Thanks
Marc, thanks. The turn-over technique works really well and no danger to damage the work.
