Sorry, Paul, here is the answer.
Do you know about drogues that are deployed from the stern, and about the tactic of getting out of the way of bad weather rather than sitting is out?
I have strong points in the stern too,i guess and hope never to have to use the things in anger my friend, but as I plan to sail solo a lot of the time,I feel that I have a few more options which cannot be a bad thing imho.
Don't get it, are you planning to feed a rode line/chain through there?
Yes Ricardo,a shackle first that will form a bridle for para anchor/ drogue or anchor.
Then if you would have the bolt part of the bridle between the attachment and your bow, it will probably mar your bow's paint at least. I'd probably go with a large roller shackle with the roller bolt in contact with your line rode, or a block shackle. Now if you are planning on the first part of your rode being chain, then you'll probably need a snatch block shackle (which you snatch to the line part of your rode). And in every case I'd be worried about the attachment eating my shackle away.
Now doing all this at the very point of your bow, in heavy weather condition and soloing, and in both bows..... I'd feel a tad uncomfortable.
Sorry for all the buts and ifs, but I'd rather think all this while at home drinking a beer than in the actual situation.
Cheers.
Your points are valid Ricardo. The manufacturers do advise the bridle and para anchor rode be set well before you need it.I was thinking of a long D shackle with the straight part of the D shackle closest to the bow.Another option is to drill a hole thru the bend of the strap and then put a shackle thru it.
cheers paul.
