Hi everyone! Just doing some planning for more summer fun on my Tiki 21, and want to modify the engine placement or set up. Last summer, I added a little dodger and bimini (the bimini folds out of the way so I can see the sails and clamber out of the hull). It worked so well! I was in the shade when I wanted to be and cosy in the hull, with all lines (not the halyards) led back to the port hull. The only problem I faced in bigger waves was that an odd wave would collide with the vertical surface of the wood that holds the engine, hanging below the deck, sending a few cupfuls of water into the air and onto my lap! Brad on Beto has an 'aft of the rear beam' set up, but I'm wondering if it'll cavitate too much. How about a sled, like Jim Brown did on the wonderful Searunner, Scrimshaw? Anyone have any solutions?

Hi everyone, Steve here from Vancouver, BC. Got a 30 + year old repaired Tiki 21 last year from a guy in Port Townsend. It has a Hobie 16 rotating mast and sails. I have partially stripped (back to bare wood in some spots) my beams and want to repaint them. Does anyone have any suggestions for the best paint? The marine epoxies are really pricey, but maybe they're worth it? Does it matter if the paint that's left on the beams is oil? I don't actually know if it is or isn't. Many thanks!
Trampoline Maintenancetag:wharrambuilders.ning.com,2018-05-25:2195841:Topic:1600972018-05-25T10:04:01.018ZIan Bamseyhttp://wharrambuilders.ning.com/profile/IanBamsey

Hi, just got a brand new mainsail from Jeckells and it has the same issue as my prior sail. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the loops over the jaws. The gaff is snugged all the way into the pocket on the sail and the loops cannot reach the jaws. Am I missing an obvious trick...? -- Jeff

I saw this in another thread concerning the possible issues with the wingsail in the rain, and wanted to ask some questions about it without hijacking that thread.

I really dig that cabin top bench. The Tiki21 has spoken to me for many years, and I'm in a spot in life where a build is possible in the garage, and he could live in the canal behind our house. Two things with the Tiki21 have usually dampened my enthusiasm for jumping in setup time from the trailer and lack of more comfortable seating. The trailer piece is solved by having it moored nearby, but the seating always made me look to the Tiki8M, Tiki26 or Tiki30. When I saw Boatsmith's Tiki30 and the comfortable cockpit I almost swooned it was so well done and well conceived. Really those seem to be more boat than I want, and while I may be able to justify a build as big as a Tiki 21 (big jump from my 18' cedar strip outrigger) once I start thinking about being mobile when we really want to sail in the Keys, or head up to NC outerbanks I really like the thought of keeping it simple and smaller.

These cabin top seats look pretty cool. Part back rest, part rail, relatively little added windage. No need to compromise wave clearance by modifying the simple deck panels. I could see doing something like this in laminated strips like my iakos. Perhaps a hammock-like bench instead of the slats, but I like it the way it is. Looks like they are secure but still removable as well.

I can't tell if that is the original style hatch, but it looks like there is clearance for it to open, maybe even slide forward.

I'm a fan of building to plan first, then modifying if I find the need/desire is really there after using the boat. These seem like they could be retrofitted easily.

Interested to hear thoughts on Tiki21 comfort for seating during day sails and weekend trips, and any pros/cons to cabin top benches like these. Thanks to Andres for sharing!

I looking into replacing an outboard for a Tiki 21. I've used a 4HP Yamaha 2-stroke and feel it a bit under powered against wind and tide. When it's working hard it's noisy and drinks up the fuel.

I wondering if a 6HP 4-stroke would be a better choice. Any advice or experience would be appreciated.
