The local lake we sail on is in a National Park. They have just banned motorized water craft. The Tiki sails so well in light air we don’t need much propulsion. Has anyone tried using sweeps or a stern oar as an alternative to the motor?

This is a good question.  Shame nobody had any answers.  Have you considered building a pedal drive like the Mirage Drive used on (admittedly much lighter) the Hobie Tandem Island trimarans?  There are also wilder, more eccentric approaches to this.  This guy's solution looks interesting, but frustratingly there aren't any pics of the mechanism itself. http://www.searunners.net/category/wharram/

I'm thinking about doing a pedal drive on a Hitia 17.

Sculling with a single oar (or sweep) at the stern should work well on a lake with no tides.  In years gone by people used to propel craft weighing many tons that way.  There's plenty online about it, for instance:-  https://www.pbo.co.uk/seamanship/sculling-over-the-stern-20811

Thank you for the ideas. It looks like the stern oar and sculling would be the best bet to start with, although peddle power sounds intriguing.
