There is a 22 ton fero cement mono hull near where I am building. She's considered a wreck by the owner and they're going to drag her out and sink her next week...should make a sweet fishing spot :/
Her main and mizzen masts are aluminum and in great shape, as are a complete set of sails. He'll sell cheap, about $2k USD. The main's about 55 ft tall and the mizzen is about 30'.
So I'm wondering - How bad would a somewhat undersized ketch rig on a pahi be?
I'm worried there would be too much sail forward of the center of effort, and not enough aft. Do you think it's worth messing around with? I keep telling myself it will be 'temporary' haha
Ah, it's just sad. She was beautifully made in Greece 25 years ago and now we're over there scavenging her to pieces.
Anyway, I'd appreciate hearing what you think.
Cheers!
Tom; Just an idle thought: Is it possible to use the old mizzenmast as a new foremast, and use the old mainmast as the new mainmast? The result would be a schooner rig, and just might address your concerns re sail plan center of effort vs. center of lateral resistance. Also, FYI, I can highly recommend the rigging books written by Brion Toss. Best of luck, and Happy New Year! Wes

Thanks for the ideas guys. The owner still hasn't sunk her, so I'm still haggling. One of his freinds put the idea in his head that his set of sails might be worth more than $500.
