I have a problem with my roller furling and wish to dismantle it to find out what the problem is (or perhaps ditch it altogether).
The problem is that the top doesn't rotate smoothly enough and often wraps the halyard around the top of the forestay.
I'm hoping that i can take it all off from the bottom (whilst temporarily securing the mast using halyards). Is this the case or is it in someway attached at the top?
Many Thanks,
John

Typically the top bearing will get bound up with salt or other grit. Flushing it out with fresh water usually gets it truning smoothly. The halyard should be rigged so that it meets the top bearing at an angle, not parallel to the stay. Sometimes it is necessary to add a block or move the halyard block to get the proper angle. You should mention the make and model of roller furler, is it old and worn out? Some can be dismantled from the bottom, some have to be taken off with the stay.
