Build: 2012-2013 in Bali using marine grade 6mm plywood (hulls), fiberglass and epoxy. She's pretty much original according to Wharram plans with a few small adaptions, notably the engine mount. She fits a small petrol engine up to 5HP or 25kg. Although today I would fit a small electric trolling motor or electric outboard, less hassle. Engine is not included in this sale. She's also got a bow roller for a small anchor.

She's got a sprit-rig with a gorgeous set of dacron sails. The main sail is a sleeved on the mast, in typical Wharram fashion. A whole set of lines is included, plus a few spare ones. All blocks and cleats are included. The sail setup is original according to plans.

She's located in Ubud, Bali. She fits on the small 5m trucks that are typical in Indonesia. I can help arrange transport to anywhere in Bali, possibly to other parts in Indonesia too. The carpenter who build the boat is still around and would be happy to help with the paint job and any repairs or upgrades. Transportation and repairs are not part of the sale price.

This is one of the boats Wharram is using in their advertisement for the Hitia 17. She might very well be one of the most beautiful Hitia 17 ever built, but she needs a bit of love to get back to her former glory.

Notable jobs that need to be done:

  • Beams and parts of the hull and tiller system need to be repainted. Back in 2012 we painted the hull and mast with high quality 2 part PU paint but then ran out of it and there was no more supply in Bali. So The beams got painted with one part PU car paint that is now in dire need of replacement. Small parts of the hulls have been repaired over the years and need a paint touch-up too.

  • The sail cloth is in very good shape but some of the fittings are corroded. The clew of the main is in bad shape (although probably still operable) and the hook for the hank-on jib are stuck. A few grommets on both sails are corroded. Overall a small job for any sailmaker or DIY

  • The plugs for the drainage holes need to be replaced

  • The O-rings for 2 of the hull-hatches need to be replaced

  • 2 tiny cleats for the beam lashings need to be replaced

She can be sailed as-is but it's recommended to at least paint over some epoxy repairs soon, certainly before any prolonged storage in the sun. The jib would need to be lashed on to the forestay with small pieces of rope if the hooks are not replaced.
