Salut Eric

I see that you know well your classics! good culture as transmitted by Bombigher . in fact, this wing " Dania " for (DA) niel and A ( NIA) (name of his late wife ) was far ahead of its time. The principle is based on the Bermuda sailing, with a broad head rest , much like the ships of Netherland .
Why ahead of its time ? just watch the sail plans of current racing boats . The masthead in battens have exactly the same function as the curved horn of my rig. Just a few years ago , a challenge of América Cup also used a feature of Bermuda rig , that put a space between the mast and the sail trim along the mast ( beak principle slot if memory good ) .
Salut Jean Paul,

Salut Jean Paul,
You use a design made by Bombigher. The guy designed schooners, amongst other boats, and when I was much younger, I was dreaming of them. However, your rig is similar (basicly) to the old "Beluga", and it is called , in French at least, a houari , even a houari militaire for the gaff is so close to the mast. Very nice rig, yes. However, I will follow Wharram' s plans for now! I have a lack of imagination. Latter, may be!

The leather to protect the mast is a very good idea. We used the gaff without it in the beginning and it damaged the mast paint and produced annoying sounds.

I strongly advise to finish the gaff not before you have your sails. It really has to fit in the pocket. We had to cut pieces away from the already painted gaff. Please don't repeat our mistakes. Also concerning the distance inside the fork: test it on the mast and sand away if necessary. I found a pretty lose fit better than the tight one. This makes hoisting and droping the sail easier and has no disadvantages in my opinion.

Bon courage
