The set-up John is describing is still part of the solid cockpit tray, which would rest on the decks of your trailered Tiki 30. If your T30 was built to design, you already should have a solid cockpit tray. The pod, modified or not, is still part of this tray.

Otherwise, my old Tiki 30 (the one shown for the Tiki 30 Group page) had a soft bimini/spray dodger that I designed. The rails were attached to the outside edges of the cabin tops in stainless steel sockets.…

Thanks for your reply, i have thought to build something similar as it leaves more space outside and would provide a practical navigation area. The only thing is that i like the trailer option for now at least so i try not to build any rigid structure. Otherwise i think it is the way to go. ( just my opinion) i would be great to see pictures when youre building it!

The set-up Rogerio mentioned is more flexible, and can be removed completely. I am just not sure where to mount the frame.

Also i would like the hatches to the hulls attached to the deck tent, so i can walk dry to the other side.

My boat is dismantled now for sanding and painting, next summer ill take here to a sail maker to get a tent.

Regards,

Hi Bart I am just starting on the platform construction of the tiki 30. The construction plans to me are

pretty confusing at this point but I am hopping to construct a shortened down Version of the deck pod by simply moving the pod bulkhead forward and perhaps leaving the back off of it entirely . Bimini could be built off of the structure To shield the cockpit from sunshine I would still have one birth way forward in the pod and there's enough of a pod to be an effective spray…

Bart,

This configuration, you can use: only sprayhood, the roof of cockpit and with side extentions all cockpit closed.

I do my new bimini, with side extentions, but still wait for it. In next week I post new photo.

But I choice the headroom wrong, very low, good size to sit down, but the best is to achieve stay upright.

The ST1000, is in test. In motor, is ok, in sail, need more tests for I will say anything. Maybe need ropes more rigid. But this set up…

Hi Rogerio, thanks for your reply. I am going to do as you say but wander where to make the pivot points for the frame. Now i think i am going to glue a small piece of wood under the jib-sheet mounting on the inner side of the cabin.

and why shouldn't you close the sides of de sprayhood? For simplicety? it does ad some comfort i think.

I also like to make the extension in a way that the entrance door's of the hulls are also dry. in our wether ( netherlands) keeping it dry in the rain is important to keep it nice for wife and kids.

i found among your foto's a nice autopilot setup. Is de st1000 fast enough for the tiki and are you hapy with the setup? it looks good.

Thanks!

It's possible, I think one like this, like a doghouse(sprayhood) with one square piece of fabric, roled and lash in stern of cabin, in one stake.
