I've recently done a lot of maintenance on my Yamaha outboard and was chagrinned to have the engine stall out just as I was entering the last set of buoys out into the bay. It wouldn't restart, but I was able to sail the cat back to the dock.
I was using a small 3 gallon day tank and had refilled it just before going out, so the gas was newly purchased. I dumped the fuel out into a clear jug and could see it was orange and cloudy. Fortunately everything ran normally after flushing the fuel system with new clean fuel.

Here in Brazil(the country of ethanol) we don't use ethanol in outboard motors. But our gas have a lot (maybe 20% of ethanol) include. Our outboard motors comes with bigger giggles in carburetor (and the internal carburetor receive one colt of some metal, what I forget now, because corrosion ) . Now with new electronic fuel injections (efi) the problems is gone
In Brazil use Petrobras Podium - 91 Octane. Is clear without ethanol. We find this gas only in Big Cities in Petrobras gas stations
