<p>We built ours out of 5" schedule 10 aluminum pipe. The masthead and rigging chocks were also made from 3/16" aluminum plate, and welded on.</p>

<p>We also had a chunk of solid aluminum cut and shaped just as per the drawings for the mast step, then welded it in place. I would use wood for this particular piece if I ever did it again, and through bolt it to the mast.</p>
