IF YOU DIDN’T GET EMAIL #1 ABOUT THIS EVENT, PLEASE LET ME KNOW AND I’LL SEND IT TO YOU. Email #1 has the most information.  This email contains additional information along with some repetition and updates.

We will be holding our annual summer rendezvous in May 2014.  Specifically, May 16, 17, 18.  It will be in Islamorada, FL (Florida Keys).  We are expecting Wharrams of various sizes and descriptions but I never know exactly who will be here and what boats will be attending until a few weeks before the event.

A Gathering of Wharrams

Hui Wharram -- Hawaiian name.  In long form “Hui-o-waa-Kaulua-Wharram”.  “Hui” means a group or gathering united for a common purpose (further: “o” means of, “waa” means canoe and is pronounced va-a with both a's short, “Kaulua” means two hull (Kau=hull and lua= two)).  So, it literally means a gathering of two-hull Wharram canoes.  In the short form "Hui Wharram " – a group or gathering of Wharrams.

Anchoring:  The holding is mud or sand on top of flat coral rock (you will need two anchors, especially if there is a blow).  We use the Lorelei’s dinghy dock (about ¼ mile, or less depending on your draft, from the anchored boats).  Smaller Wharrams (up to about 31’) can bring the boats up to the beach.  Larger Wharrams can anchor out farther or just behind the beached boats.  We have had Wharrams up to 36’ right up to the beach.

The Lorelei:  Great place!  Very Keysey!!!  We will hold our Saturday evening Dutch-treat dinner party there. There is live music every evening.  Dining is mostly outdoors, although the bar area is covered (priorities!).  Many of us will use the Lorelei for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  The menu ranges from hamburgers, fish and conch sandwiches (excellent!!!) to full meals.  The food is very good and the ambience is definitely “Keysey”.  The Lorelei is both a local’s and tourist hangout.  Check out the Lorelei at www.loreleicabanabar.com.

Dinner:  Our Saturday night Dutch-treat group dinner (limited menu) will be at the Lorelei (the menu will be included with the next Epistle).  We will have door prizes, to include (order of drawing the prizes will be random):
